Is War Horse appropriate for children? ›

For all you people who've been asking me (and members of the War Horsecast and creative team) if you can bring your kids to see the show, here's the official response: War Horse is generally appropriate for children ages 10 and above.

Parents need to know that Warhorse One is a predictable wartime drama about a rescue mission set in Afghanistan with plenty of violence and some strong language.

Parents need to know that WarGames is a suspense-filled drama that will appeal to older kids, teens, and grownups. While there's no violent action and the film delivers a sound message, it's a race against time -- nuclear weapons are about to be launched.

Although it is a work of fiction, War Horse has shown the deep bond between man and beast as well as how everyone suffers during war – not just humans but also animals.

Really recommended. A wonderful show!! Had the pleasure to be in the audience for war horse. A fantastic show so moving and the actors and puppeteers out of this world.

It's a very good movie for people and children of all ages.

There were no close ups of blood and gore. My children are frightened easily by those things and did not cringe at all at this movie. In some cases, the horror of the war scenes were so well hidden that they had to ask me what just happened.

This book's simple vocabulary makes it accessible to kids from age 10, but there is a good deal of violence and death in War Horse. It would be unrealistic if a novel whose action happens largely in the thick of battle didn't include injuries and death, but horse lovers should be forewarned.

War Horse is very unique because it's told by Joey, a horse being thrusted into the war on the Western Front. The story is innocent, yet it's so sensational and full of angst from the characters. I felt attached to the story from the first chapter and couldn't peel my eyes off then.

My rating: PG-13 for alcohol use, language, sports-related violence and some suggestive references.

Children experience conflict in a variety of situations across their home and social lives. War play provides them a valuable processing and experimental tool. Through the safe medium of play, children can learn to regulate their emotions, and consider the emotions of others.

The film is uncompromisingly sentimental, and I wasn't annoyed by it. Because it worked so well, it made me care about the story, the characters, the horses. A good old fashion studio epic, I miss them and I'm happy Spielberg delivered one. There are a lot of powerful scenes in the movie, from which I cried.

My 10-year-old said nothing but didn't complain at all about us turning the movie off. Don't watch this with kids under 12 unless they've already been desensitized to scary stuff.
